Who's the Blazers True Point Guard?

The idea that Blake was brought back to Portland because he is a better performer than our current point guards is ludicrous. In my opinion, he was brought back on to the squad because he was the best available role player for our young team. The young players need a seasoned player to help provide direction during the growing pains that the Blazers will more than likely be faced with. Also, Nate trusts Blake to run the offense the way he wants it run.

Blake is not a better one on one player than Jack; Blake has no skill demonstrably better than Jack. Career 3-point averages are meaningless - recent performance and trends are far better indicators of immediate future performance and trends. Even if Blake gets better at some skills, with his one potentially valuable skill being 3-point shooting, Jack is likely to improve faster and be better.

So why Blake again?

Because the Blazers do not trust Jack to run the team like it should be run - which would threaten the development of the rest of the youngsters. If Jack doesn't start, it won't be because he isn't the better basketball player, it will be because Blake will be a more stable, error-free guard. Blake will play the game McMillan wants him to play, while Jack - in my opinion - is more prone to play for the moment.

From a pure performance perspective - Blake is a backup point guard, but he doesn't think he is a backup. Many fans don't believe he is a backup. But lets face it, Steve Blake is a solid backup. What is being over looked is Sergio Rodriguez will be the point guard of the future, and Blake will help Sergio hone the skills necessary to run the team.

It'd be funny if it weren't sad. Is this a blog for a tax payer funded liberal arts college or an arm of the Kremlin?

Mid relief, let’s grow up a little bit bud. We don't go on to your blog and bash your ill written columns about your sorry New York Yankees. Some of your comments are not necessary and certainly not conductive.

For your information, Portland State University ranked nationally in the top ten in three categories in the 2003 edition of US News and World Report, “America’s Best Colleges.” These categories and rankings spotlight academic programs “that really work.” National rankings were: 4th in Service Learning, 7th in Learning Communities, and 8th in Senior Capstones.

So curb your futile comments about PSU. If you bash our blogs by using comments that are not constructive, it just makes you look less credible as a writer.

I agree with blazer fan. Middle Relief you know nothing about PSU. If all you can come back with is that we are living in the Oregon Territory your level of history needs some work because Oregon is a state not a territory. Your comments are written at the level of a 12 year old who is acting like they know everything when it seems as though your arguements are unresearched with no validity. There is no substance to your writing. You are arguing with people who give you no credibilty.

Who's arguing? Just blogging, and don't like it when I see laziness (as in stating an opinion as if its fact , when a little research to gain a deeper perspective would have been appreciated)

PSU'ers appear to be phoning it in on easy topics. Tax payers are floating the boat for your precious education that you and your mates clearly aren't taking full advantage of.

And on the 12 grader level slam, as is the case when most people hurl insults, If I'm at the 12th grade level - where does that put most of the posters on TGSD????

Get better. -

Kind Regards - Mid

Again, all you can talk about is how tax payers’ money is going to waste on our education...mid, you really need to conjure up a new argument because it has no validity. Not all of our classmates are as polished on sports topics as you try to make yourself sound. However, if we had a blog dealing with topics surrounding Bio Chemistry, Engineering, or even Business, we would probably do circles around you. Did you even go to school mid? Oh I get it, you need to apply your sub par developed skills to writing about the Yanks all day long...my bad

Blaze -

you are too funny. sure, why not have a topic on bio chem, business, or engineering?

I doubt seriously that would increase the quality of dialogue. It seems to me, and am willing to concede that my opinion means nothing, that you PSU debaters would continue to just phone in posts to meat the requirements of a class - not necesarily to expand the mind or come to a greater understanding of the issue at hand.

So, until proven otherwise, my opinion of PSU, and its 2003 placing on US News' rankings, remain unchanged.

blaze - 1 more thing before I go for a bit:

you mentioned topics about business - I would suggest that on matters when contracts and pay have been discussed I think I did tie it to greater business concepts - and was met with the highly intellectual response of Yankees suck.

So, there you have it.
