Jerry Glanville comes to Portland State

With The Orgonian naming Jerry Glanville one of the 25 most influential people in Oregon Sports, it is only another reason for our school to realize how exciting this upcoming football season is going to be.

Former NFL and D1-A football coach, Jerry Glanville has finished up the spring season at Portland State and is dedicated to making a change to the football program with the city of Portland at his back. There has already been the most season tickets sold for this upcoming season than any other year. Glanville, along with Portland State Football was featured on SportsCenter with ESPN spotlighting his carreer, impact and progress on his new team, and how Oregon and Oregon State football along with other D1-A football programs will not schedule Portland State for reasons unknown....Sounds to me like they are scared to lose!

For once, PGE park is expected to be sold out for home games, and Portland State will have a football team in which they will be proud and excited to attend to! GO VIKS!

I totally agree that this is an exiting time to be following the Vikings. Glanville in a high profile coach that is finally injecting this city with some football frenzy. I cant wait to see the team take the field this fall, it is sure to be a good one. Oregon State did however play PSU last fall for the season opener and completely blew them away on both the offense and defensive ends of the field. It's too bad we can not land a out of conference game with a high profile school, because PSU is losing out of lots of dollars.

God, I remember that game a couple of years ago when Portland State was trailing Boise State with a minute to go, and they threw a pass to a guy who had nobody within TWENTY yards of him, and it was overthrown. That play would have won them the game over a high profile Division 1-A opponent. I think these events were set in motion that day.

I think ESPN put it best about the hiring of Jerry Glanville. "How big is this for Portland State Football? It's spring, and we're talking about Portland State Football."
