Should professional sports players and coaches be held accountable through their respective leagues for DUI charges? Since players are in the public eye, if they are not held accountable for their DUI’s, does that send the wrong message to fans, especially younger adolescent to teenage years? Should the professional sports leagues set rules in place such as requiring players to attend rehabilitation treatment centers to send out a good message? Is it even the professional sports responsibility to use their players as role models to be upstanding citizens?

Well a Duii is different then a drug posession. I beleive they should definately be held accountable, however they should not make such a big media frenzy over it, or be suspended.
Duii's happen, they could be from having one two many drinks at a team dinner, so Duii'd arn't(in my mind) a huge concern, however drugs should not be tolerated, at all.
Are they sending a positive message to the younger fans you asked, of course not, but I'l say it again, Duii's will happen. It's really how they respond tto them, that sends a message. Its nice to see them adress the media, explain what hapen, and move on from their. It's horrible that we have to see their drunken mug shots, I'm sure they're realy hapy about that.
DUI's should not be happening, how can you say that it's ok for people to drive around drunk, and risk people's lives, but not ok for them to smoke some pot? Neither should be tolerated, because they are both illegal. Therefore, yes there should be punishments. It shouldn't always be public, but letting people know that famous people do not get away with everything may send the correct message to younger to fans.
Amen Jill! Not only does it send the wrong message to younger fans but also to the players, who under current ways things are run, probably think its not a big deal and that they could get away with it. The longer these people avoid consequences the more frequent it will happen. There is just no fear because punishment is not enforced.
